Au terme d'une cérémonie sobre et émouvante, Robert Badinter est officiellement entré au Panthéon ce jeudi 9 octobre 2025. Emmanuel Macron a promis dans son discours de continuer à « porter » son combat « jusqu'à l'abolition universelle ».

Sous les applaudissements du public venu nombreux, les mots du discours du ministre de la Justice de François Mitterrand ont résonné à plusieurs reprises ; notamment deux prononcés à la tribune de l'Assemblée nationale quand il demanda le 17 septembre 1981 « l'abolition de la peine de mort en France ».

Parmi les temps forts de cette cérémonie marquée par la sobriété, l'interprétation par Julien Clerc de sa chanson « L'assassin assassiné » consacrée en 1980 à la lutte pour l'abolition du châtiment suprême.

Le comédien Guillaume Gallienne a lu un texte de Victor Hugo, précurseur dans ce même combat. Ce texte, comme d'autres, a été choisi par la veuve de l'avocat qui sauva plusieurs hommes de la guillotine, la philosophe Élisabeth Badinter, également applaudie à son arrivée sur place.
